Certificates are issued and renewed automatically, and you can check their status at any time by logging into cPanel and clicking on the SSL/TLS Status icon.
An SSL certificate lets your website load securely over HTTPS, encrypting everything that passes between your website and its visitors. That matters for more than just security:
- Browsers such as Chrome label websites that don't load over HTTPS as "Not Secure", which puts visitors off.
- Login forms, contact forms and checkouts on a page without HTTPS trigger extra browser warnings.
- Google uses HTTPS as a ranking signal in its search results.
Certificate Installed But Still Not Secure?
Having a certificate installed doesn't mean your website automatically loads securely. If any element on a page (stylesheets, images, scripts, fonts or embedded content) is still being loaded over plain HTTP, browsers treat the page as "mixed content" and won't show it as fully secure.
Fixing this means editing your website's files, and its database if it has one, so that everything loads over HTTPS. You then need to redirect all traffic to the HTTPS version of your site and check that every page still works. That's straightforward for some websites and very time-consuming for others.
